What should you do in Merida? There’s plenty to fill up a few days.
Merida is a small city that you can easily explore on your own by walking. With our three day Merida trip, we found a few top things that you can do.
Walk around the city
The best way to get acquainted with Merida is to walk! Take a walking tour to Palacio Municipal for a beautiful view of the plaza below.
Then head over to Mercado Lucas de Galvéz to check out a sprawling local market. Who needs Whole Foods here?
Grab a cocktail at Apoala
Tired of mezcal, margaritas, or beer? You’ll find some of the best locally inspired cocktails at Apoala.
Day trip to Uxmal
Merida is known for its proximity to the Mayan ruins. Instead of the overpacked Chichen Itza, take a DIY tour of Uxmal. You’ll be able to explore a well maintained site at your own time.
Take a stroll down Paseo de Montejo
Paseo de Montejo is Merida’s main boulevard and probably the fanciest area in Merida.
Some people call it the Champs-Élysées or the Beverly Hills of Merida. You can take an evening stroll on the tree lined sidewalks, and grab a refreshing sorbet snack at Dulceria y Sorbeteria Colon.
